Venture Concept No1

Delights for Disasters
The need I found that I identified is the need to help victims that have suffered from a disaster. While several people need assistance specifically from the devastation that occurred due to hurricane Michael’s aftermath, there is a need to assist these people and that is where my customer base stems from. The people that have the need are those that are genuinely concerned with the well being of their community, those who have experienced lost or tragedy as a result of the storm and want to help others, those who are concerned with their reputation in the community those that wish to volunteer and donate because of the feel good factor that comes from helping others.

This opportunity was created due to nature itself. The destruction that Hurricane Michael produced caused people to see the impact directly from the devastation left behind when a natural disaster strikes. The media heavily publicized the tragedy and many people in the community were directly impacted. Everyone in America at some point probably heard about the storm and its strength, being one of the strongest Hurricanes to hit the United States. However, I think geographically this one touches closely to the Florida panhandle since they were the ones who had firsthand experience of how the community was impacted around them.

Currently the need to assist others are being satisfied by personally volunteering time to help others or donating money to assist others. This is a large opportunity since so many people are still in desperate need after the storm and so many people want to help. I think this opportunity is somewhat limited in terms of time. There will be a time when people have fully recovered from the storm and no longer need the same financial assistance. However, natural disasters will always be an occurrence, so this could be expanded to assist all that have suffered form a natural disaster.

I am creating an innovative nonprofit that combines products, services and events that will profit those in need after the natural disaster. I plan to create “money trees” which are flower designed made from actual cash money. These would be available for purchase and the profits would go towards helping assist families that have suffered a lost during the storm. This would be profitable by making a “money tree” that uses twenty-one-dollar bills to create the product and selling it for forty dollars with the profit going to assistance. These would also be available to purchase and send to one of the families in need. I would also like to host concerts where bands would volunteer their time and the procedures from the ticket sales would help those impacted by hurricane Michael. I would like to create a variety of events that ticket sales would benefit those in need. In addition, I would like to create a network of volunteers and donors that could network together to assist those that were impacted from the hurricane.

I think customers would want to use my service for the fact it is a fun way to give back. Instead of just donating money they are doing something original like being able to attend a concert, event, benefit or receiving a money tree. Competition with things such as Red Cross do not have this originality advantage. I think the customer experience would stand out the most and be the most important concept that would make customers very likely to become part of this organization.

I would organize the company into different sections. I may have someone who oversees the products who create, build and market such products like the “money trees”. I would have a group in charge of concerts where they would book bands, venues and sale concert tickets. I would have a group in charge of creating performing and selling tickets to events. I would also have a marketing group that would oversee marketing different products, events and services. I would need a group to track sales and profits to see what is working best for us. A group would oversee donations and putting together individuals in need with services and financial assistance. Each group would contain a group of about five members including one team leader, one assistant coordinator, one sales manager, one secretary and one treasurer. So, each person would be appointed to a group and a position within that group with a title and set of specific responsibilities. Eventually I would like to expand from Hurricane Michael victims to all disaster victims.

  1. Hi Victoria,
I think this venture concept is unique and truly beneficially. You have a lot of opportunity to grow this idea into something more when involving bands and local businesses. Turning this into a benefit concert, I believe, can really help you grow this and achieve your goals. One thing in particular that I appreciate are the money trees. This gives donors a tangible representation of their actions, promoting and encouraging the likelihood they will donate.

  2. Hi Victoria, I love the idea! Being able to be an entrepreneur and help out the community is wonderful and I love it. Just a question: are the "dollar trees" formed from real dollar bills? As in, are the bills cut up to make leaves and decorations? Or are they just dollar bills hanging from a tree sculpture?

    1. The dollar bills will be taped or placed on the design so they can actually be used. I have made one before and they turn out really cute and beneficial.

  3. Victoria, I like how you're expanding ways to reach donors, volunteers and other participants. I feel like you will need more effort to find and recruit helpers/volunteers than finding the people who need help. You may consider asking businesses to donate gift cards or discount coupons for their services, redeemable by the disaster victims. Local businesses may also be interested in hosting or providing event-space (e.g. their parking lots) as a way to raise awareness of their business.
