Reading Reflection 1

I read “Grinding It Out” by Ray Kroc. I think what surprised me the most was that he made his fortune not necessarily on fifteen cent hamburgers but by monopolizing on real estate. I was also surprised that the business idea really wasn’t his originally. The fact the business had already been established and he just franchised what was already made was surprising. I admired his drive. He was constantly working to succeed. I also admired that he was brash and wasn’t afraid to go out and ask for what he wanted. I really admired that even when faced with difficulties he did not back down and continued to strive. The thing I admired the least was his view of marriage. It seemed as he saw his thirty-year marriage as disposable when he started to make money and saw a pretty face. The fact he wanted to marry a married woman while he was married I found a little unnerving. He encountered a lot of failure through the process before and during establishing the McDonalds empire. Instead of giving...

Staying organized is a main key as well as time management. If you know when all your deadlines are it is easy to stay on track. I track all the assignment due dates in my calendar so each week I know exactly what to expect. Also, working ahead really helps. That way you can take a little time to brain storm ahead of time and also gives time for adjustments to be made when things come up. The more you prioritize your time the more beneficial easier it is to keep up with the requirements of the course. There is a quote about taking the first step even though you cannot see the entire staircase the resonates in this course. It is easy to give up when you don’t immediately see the results in the beginning. At times things can become overwhelming and you may want to give up. However, if you break things down in small steps its easier to see each goal as a significant goal in the right direction. I think being optimistic has helped me tremendously in this course and several others. Somet...

Figuring out Buyer Behavior

I decided to focus on the segment of lower income individuals that specifically suffered damaged to their home that they are unable to afford to repair and is causing day to day issues. The first person I spoke with told me they needed electrical work because of the hurricane. They realized their real need for this when the weather changed and got colder. Heat became a more immediate essential item on their list of repairs. This need is now constant due to the colder weather. They anticipate that the air condition unit will become another repair if they do not get the electrical fixed by the time the weather begins to warm. The next person I spoke with had a problem with funds due to the hurricane. Since they were forced to have to move because of the damage they were trying to come up with enough funds for a new place and deposits for bills. This was becoming an even bigger increase on their day to day life having limited funds for basic needs such as food while making the...

Idea Napkin No. 1

1) You. I am one of the locals that experienced Hurricane Michael. I survived the Hurricane and I experienced damage to my property as well. I was able to utilize resources to assist with the recovery process. I think my experience cultivating resources to help other’s in the community that experienced loss or devastation could be very useful. I have managed business, so I think I could use these skills to manage my own business that would help other’s in the community. I think the business concept would play a huge roll in my life since I would be helping assist others in my community and could relate to each of their issues. I helped establish “The I Can Team” at my community college as vice president I was successful in creating a team that brought about assistance for those with disabilities. 2) What are you offering to customers? I would like to create a nonprofit business that can help bring resources to those who experienced loss during Hurricane Michael. I would l...

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2 The first person I spoke with stayed during the hurricane. While their family did suffer some problems, they did not personally experience much property damage or loss. In fact, the girl I spoke with was living at her parent’s house at the time the storm occurred. She was able to get a few friends together as roommates shortly after the storm, so she was not negatively impacted by the damage from the hurricane. She grew up in Panama City Beach so had a strong network of friends that were able to assist her. Her place of work was not severely damaged, so she was able to continue her job without an issue. She was not impacted in such a way that she has a need for resources or additional help. The second person I spoke with said he had damages to part of the home he lived in during the storm. While this was a problem since he rented his house, the landlord was able to make the repairs in a timely manner. While this was an inconvenience it was not a continu...
