Final Reflection
Through this semester I have found a lot of information about myself, business and where to find information then I originally knew existed. Some of the assignments I particularly enjoyed were the readings. I like to read, and I found all the books I read on the list very interesting and informative. I would be tempted to read all the books on the list and I’m keeping the list for my personal enjoyment as reading options. I did not particularly enjoy the interview experiences at first. Also, upon the start I found the elevator pitches difficult. Of course, by the end I learned with practice the elevator pitches came very naturally. I began using an elevator pitch with different Uber drivers that I present to start conversations.
I think even though at first, I found the interviews difficult I really learned there is a surplus of information and people are more than willing to share their experiences with you. I am not comfortable with talking to strangers at work, fellow coworkers and other individuals that work near me about their own business ventures. I’ve learned that everyone truly knows something you do not know and by sharing information you have a lot to learn. With any business is you want to know something it is the easiest thing to do just talk to someone and they will give you more information than you even considered.
I think this class really helped me see an entrepreneurial mindset. It showed me how important it is to identify a need. It also taught me that to sell a product or service you must have a market that is willing to buy (has a need for it) and has the funds to buy. While it may not be easy to start and maintain a business if you really asses what your promoting you have a better chance of success. It also taught me that failures are just opportunities to improve.
My recommendation for this class is to put your all into it. You will get out what you put in. If you really try to engulf yourself in the assignments, you will end up taking a lot out of them. The assignments are not busy work or one-time ventures or even one size fits all. Along the way you are learning more than terminology, you are learning to think like an entrepreneur. We pay a lot for the tuition and its best to get something out of the class that will benefit you a lifetime.

Victoria,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your final paragraph. You get from this class exactly what you put into it. If you are truly passionate about creating your own business and being a badass entrepreneur, take this class and work your butt off. This class really did teach me a lot about my entrepreneurial ability and myself as a whole.
Great post, Victoria!
ReplyDeleteI also thought that I really grew with the elevator pitches the more I did them. I think that getting comfortable in front of the camera, while a natural trait for some, is really all about practice for most. I also enjoyed the reading, especially the Elon Musk book, considering he's a real idol of mine, both scientifically and entrepreneurially. I think that those readings really helped me frame the teachings in real life situations.
Good luck in your scholarly and business pursuits!
Hey Victoria,
ReplyDeleteI also really enjoyed the reading assignments. I always am fascinated by successful people and their stories as I think a lot of people are. Something I also struggled with was the elevator pitches, so you aren’t alone there! Before this class I never pictured myself as an entrepreneur but there is a kind of process that you have to take and go step by step to achieve your goal. I think this class also helped me to identify all of those steps if I ever needed to.
Victoria, I also found the elevator pitches difficult, taking me some practice to finally get used to the natural flow they should be presented in. The interviews were definitely my least favorite part, as I had to expand my horizons and interview new people. I believe the entrepreneurial mindset is beneficial in our everyday lives, as it pushes us to analyze our surroundings and ask ourselves: “how can I make this better?” This mindset is necessary for us to continue bettering our world.
