Idea Napkin No. 2

1) You.

I am a member of the Panama City Beach community and I was impacted by Hurricane Michael. I was able to use the resources I could to help with my own recovery of the storm. I think I could use the ability to gain resources to help other people recover from their own disasters. I have been a manager for three years and I think this ability to manage would help me in creating a successful business. I also established the “I can Team” at my previous college so I have experience in creating an organization that helps others. I have also worked marketing for a real estate company so I have experience marketing.

2) What are you offering to customers?

I am offering donors the chance to help others in their community and feel good about their decisions. I am helping those that are still recovering from the hurricane and I would like to expand this to all of those that have suffered from a disaster. I am offering a chance to help one another. I would like to add special incentives such as membership and gifts to special donors.

3) Who are you offering it to?

I am offering the way to help to those who would like to volunteer or donate to those in their own community. The donors all have in common the desire to help each other and humanity.

4) Why do they care?

They care about their community, other people and their reputation.

5) What are your core competencies?

I have the ability to assist others with advice, resources and a place to come together to feel people have made a difference. I have the ability to connect people together in a strong networking system to give them a sense of belonging. My previous experience helps with this.

I believe my leadership abilities and previous experiences work together to create a nonprofit that would benefit others in the community. I think connecting individuals that want to assist with those who can assist could be done with my resources and networking skills. I also think my experience managing would assist me in managing a nonprofit that would be beneficial. I think my skills and abilities are in tune with what the business needs to succeed.

"feedback memo"

The feedback I got was mainly positive and encouraging that I was on the right track, so I incorporated that into my idea napkin. I was encouraged to use my previous experience which I elaborated on my marketing and management skills. One thing I realized that I changed up some was my customer basis. At first I tended to focus on those that needed help. However, my actual business is based on the donors and volunteers that want to help. I changed that in my idea napkin by focusing on who would potentially be my customers.

  1. Hi Victoria,

As both a manager and the establisher of a team, I believe you are more than qualified to successfully run this business that helps those affected by Hurricane Michael. I think you have successfully identified the reasoning behind why people would take advantage of your opportunity, stating that they truly do care. Taking in the constructive criticisms of who your target market is, I believe you made your idea stronger and more logical.

  2. Victoria, I think one of the best things you have going for you is that you have experienced the "problem" yourself. You know first hand how hurricanes affect people and communities and can relate to so many people with unmet needs resulting from weather devastation. You already have a huge advantage because of that, and I can tell from your enthusiasm that this is a challenge that you are ready take on.
