Idea Napkin No. 1
1) You.
I am one of the locals that experienced Hurricane Michael. I survived the Hurricane and I experienced damage to my property as well. I was able to utilize resources to assist with the recovery process. I think my experience cultivating resources to help other’s in the community that experienced loss or devastation could be very useful. I have managed business, so I think I could use these skills to manage my own business that would help other’s in the community. I think the business concept would play a huge roll in my life since I would be helping assist others in my community and could relate to each of their issues. I helped establish “The I Can Team” at my community college as vice president I was successful in creating a team that brought about assistance for those with disabilities.
2) What are you offering to customers?
I would like to create a nonprofit business that can help bring resources to those who experienced loss during Hurricane Michael. I would like to build donations, create a network of volunteers that would be willing to help with repairs, food assistance, shelter assist, advice and real estate needs. Essentially, I would be offering assistance to those impacted by Hurricane Michael.
3) Who are you offering it to?
I am offering assistance to those living in Panama City Beach and the surrounding area that have been impacted by the hurricane. I think charitable donors and volunteers would be united as a part of a membership that would promote the prestige of their person character, reputation of their business, offer volunteer hours for students.
4) Why do they care?
I think the main profits of the company would come from charitable donations and volunteers. I think they would pay for this to help the community. Many people all over America saw the devastation from this Hurricane and many were impacted by this. I think by helping they would find a value in helping the people.
5) What are your core competencies?
I think I would be able to connect people to valuable resources and connect members of the community together to help each other. Since I am familiar with the impact the Hurricane had from first hand experience I think I would be an asset to further assist others. My previous experience creating and building teams to help others would work in my favor.
I believe my previous experience working with those with disabilities and my strong team management skills would fit well into this business aspect. To be able to create a team of volunteers and charitable donors together would work well in aiding those impacted by Hurricane Michael. I also think being able to network with the community would make it easy to bring people together to turn this into a potentially profitable business. Even connecting with different business owners or politicians in the community to help the people impacted would work well.
Victoria, I agree this is a really workable idea. I also think you are well-positioned to build this project in that personal experience is a great teacher. I also feel like there is a long-term need for this type of work, and there would always be a demand for it -- natural disasters that destroy property have occurred for as long as anyone can remember. Your idea of bringing together elements of the community to work together is perfect. I believe anything that helps people and businesses understand each other and grow together is a good thing.
