Halfway Reflection
Staying organized is a main key as well as time management. If you know when all your deadlines are it is easy to stay on track. I track all the assignment due dates in my calendar so each week I know exactly what to expect. Also, working ahead really helps. That way you can take a little time to brain storm ahead of time and also gives time for adjustments to be made when things come up. The more you prioritize your time the more beneficial easier it is to keep up with the requirements of the course.
There is a quote about taking the first step even though you cannot see the entire staircase the resonates in this course. It is easy to give up when you don’t immediately see the results in the beginning. At times things can become overwhelming and you may want to give up. However, if you break things down in small steps its easier to see each goal as a significant goal in the right direction. I think being optimistic has helped me tremendously in this course and several others. Sometimes the path changes but it is still worth adapting and moving forward. Also, knowing I am close to graduating this semester keeps me pushing forward.
Three tips I would offer next semester’s student:
1. Don’t be afraid to reach out to others. I have learned that people enjoy talking about themselves. You may be surprised by how many people are willing to talk to you or help you. You never know when networking could pay off.
2. Be open minded. Everyone views the world differently from their own experiences. If you have an open mind you are more apt to pick up on perspectives you may not have otherwise thought about and this could benefit you.
3. Don’t let set backs stop you. We all encounter set backs in life, in school or in business. Some people may tell you no or not offer out much information that you need. That does not mean everyone will. Use setbacks as a learning experience.

Hi Victoria,
ReplyDeleteI like that having an online class means you automatically have a calendar with all the dates and assignments due. This is a way to help stay organized and not fall behind. I like your advice to reach out to others. In a class about entrepreneurship, we have had to interview lots of people and do this discussion/ feedback blog which makes us reliant on others help and opinions. People do enjoy talking about themselves, and that may just spark an idea you wouldn’t have had unless you talked to them.
Hi Victoria,
ReplyDeleteI too find that staying organized and having a schedule for everything is the best way to stay on top of this class, especially because it is online. I like how you mentioned being optimistic because I think that this has really helped me see opportunities that I haven't been able to before. Not letting set backs stop you is indeed a great piece of advice for future students as much of the final business plan will go through big periods of refinement and restructuring.
Hi Victoria! I agree that organizational and time management skills are crucial to succeed in this course. I also put all of my due dates in my calendar, but have a hard time not procrastinating the assignments. I loved your advice about breaking things into smaller steps to make reaching a goal easier. I believe completing assignments in this way pushes you to finish, as they have multiple steps. Going through the directions as if you’re checking things off a list will push you to finish quickly and effectively.
