The Bug List

The Bug List

1. The uncertainty of not knowing what career path or graduate school I will attend after graduation.

Reason: I have only applied to one school and did not get accepted so now I am unsure what to do next. I haven’t enacted a backup plan or an idea of what my next step is.

2. Taking a break from course work and realizing I do not have lunch.

Reason: Because I did not do a meal prep plan or go grocery shopping.

3. My boyfriend having a female roommate.

Reason: He had a female roommate before we met.

4. After managing a seasonal job previous coworker still have questions that don’t involve me anymore.

Reason: Because my coworkers depended on me as a leader and still see me in that role after the job is complete.

5. Getting a new piece of technology and not knowing how to use it.

Reason: I did not research how to utilize the equipment since I was impatient to start using it.

6. Having to keep up with a jacket in the winter time when going out with friends.

Reason: Because it is cold outside and when it is warmer in an establishment I remove my coat.

7. Not having enough funds to repair my house after the Hurricane.

Reason: I did not have home insurance and do not have a disposable income, yet.

8. Missing friends that are at long distances in my home town that I do not see or talk to as often.

Reason: I moved from my hometown and long-distance travel can become expensive and tedious.

9. Having old appliances that do not work very well anymore.

Reason: I bought used appliances and haven’t wanted to invest in newer appliances.

10. Nail polish chipping the same week I painted my nails.

Reason: I consistently use my hands and use cheap polish.

11. Mechanics you use that you are unsure are being dishonest with you on prices.

Reason: I do not know much about how a vehicle operates and using a new mechanic I don’t know well makes me question them.

12. Searching for a car or house and not getting much lead way.

Reason: Inventory with houses is limited and I haven’t got a response from those selling cars.

13. Having a friend betray my trust.

Reason: Poor life choices.

14. Making time to get to the bank to get a check cash or removing cash from a bank card.

Reason: Prioritizing time for other things such as school and social life plus transportation issues.

15. Trying to balance social life, home life, school and finances.

Reason: Taking on too many things at once.

16. With everyone’s schedule it can sometimes be difficult to coordinate times to get together with friends.

Reason: Responsibilities between work and school can cause different people to have different schedules.

17. Having a long-distance relationship where scheduling and funds cause physically being able to see each other very limited.

Reason: I choose to establish a relationship with someone in a different state.

18. Getting back on my exercise and diet routine after the holidays.

Reason: My seasonal job took priority over my diet and exercise routine.

19. Trying to figure out when to take the GRE and how to study.

School and other projects have my attention first.

20. My pantry and refrigerator being cluttered.

I haven’t spent the time to clean them out.

I found the list fairy easy to write. This is my second time taking the course since I had to withdraw due to Hurricane Michael. Therefore, I was familiar with the mindset needed to start the project. I used different bugs so I had to think of new things, but the previous practice made it easier to understand where to look for a problem and understand why they were occurring. I think it is a good assignment to key into what problems are out there and the reasons they are occurring. The first time I ever completed this assignment I found it difficult to find problems and even reasons why they exist. I have noticed in the real world no matter how good you think an idea is if a person doesn’t have the problem they will not be purchasing your solution.

  1. Hi Victoria,
This bug list is a great example of everyday nuisances we may not really identify as a bug and take as commonplace. I particularly liked your bug of trying to balance social life, home life and school and finances. This is something that college students, for the most part, struggle with but has become known as the "grind." You have to do it to get through, but why? Why does it have to be so unnecessarily hard? I find it interesting that it was easy for you to come up with the list. For me, it was difficult to do in one sitting.

  2. Hi Victoria!
I really enjoyed reading your bug list and did not really consider a lot of the ones you mentioned. After reading, I definitely can agree with a lot of the things that bug you. Nail polish chipping the same week you paint your nails really bugs me too -- especially when you pay to get them done at the salon. It's interesting that the list was fairly easy for you to write. I did not find it too difficult either, but it took paying attention to the things around me every day to help complete my list.

  3. Hello Victoria!
Your bug list actually surprised me a lot. When I did the assignment, I tried to think of bugs that I had with businesses, and not people. It was different to see bugs that were a lot more personal, such as your boyfriend having a female roommate or having a hard time balancing your social life. Do you think your bug list was easier to write because of this? I think I overcomplicated the assignment trying to take myself out of the equation.

  4. Hi Victoria,
Your bug list got to me! I don’t like thinking about all of the things i need to prepare for in order to lead a successful career after college. I wasn’t thinking about things like missing friends and family or a betrayal of trust when making my list. I’m sorry that you have had interruptions to your education because of Hurricane Michael. I hope that nothing like that hinders you any further.

  5. From this bug's list I now realize the simplicity it takes to create an idea. What this list showed me was that to be a better entrepreneur we have to look at the simple things in life and how convenient we can fix them. Despite this, I think that the explanations could be a little more in depth.
