Due to the damage from Hurricane Michael people are selling their damaged home as is. The property values are selling low since many had such severe damage they must sell. These properties are putting the value into the land in hopes that rebuilding can be accomplished.



The problem is the damaged property, decreased property values, the fact that these are cash sells since due to the damage traditional financing is no longer an option.



The problem exists for several people. The problem exists for the property owners who experienced severe damage. It could exist for individuals who would like to purchase a property but cannot get financing for the property. It could exist a problem for people in the surrounding areas as their property values will decline with the surrounding properties selling for so cheap.



Rebuild 850 gets $250,000 donation but organizers say area still needs more support

Rebuild 850 is an organization that was created after Hurricane Michael to help assist those who were directly impacted by the hurricane. While the organization has received donations that they have been able to distribute to organizations like Red Cross and Salvation army the funds are still not significant to continue to rebuild the damaged areas. Rebuild 850 continues to push for business and tourism investment to help the community.



The availability of funds to assist with rebuilding the community seem to be the problem.



The organization struggles with this problem if they do not receives adequate funds to keep the organization running. The people of the community are impacted by this problem. Local businesses are impacted by this problem.



$15 minimum wage closer to being on Florida ballot

A minimum wage of $15 is trying to be passed on the Florida ballet. This would raise the minimum wage for workers. This is important for wage equality. On the other hand, this could cause businesses to cut into their profit by being forced to pay employees more money.



This holds a double problem. If it is not passed it causes a problem with wage inequality, while if it is passed it causes a problem for businesses.



Depending on which way this goes it would either cause a problem for workers not being able to provide enough funds or cause businesses to struggle.



Supreme Court: Judges can be Facebook friends with attorneys

The supreme court found it to be acceptable for Judges and lawyers to be friends on Facebook. These caused some controversy in the fact that it is possible to create some bias by building relationships between judges and lawyers that could be a conflict of interest.



I think the problem here is that the judges could be bias to an attorney’s argument due to their personal relationship with them.



I think the problem here would be for the clients that my not get a fair decision due to the judge’s bias. This could also cause problems for the court system. It could cause problems for the attorney on the other side that does not have a personal relationship with the judge and may therefore cause an unfair advantage.



Spinnaker: ‘Our nightclub days are over’ as location rebrands

A local nightclub has rebranded its business to become a restaurant instead of a nightclub. They have decided instead of being a party atmosphere they will become a family friendly restaurant. Instead of closing the club they have decided to focus more on serving food.



The problem is essentially the closing of a very popular nightclub in Panama City Beach.



The problem here is for spring breakers that attending the nightclub, potentially locals that attended the nightclub, it could be a problem for Spinnaker if the restaurant image does not go well, it could be a problem for workers at the establishment since bouncers and bartenders will no longer be needed as much and it could be a problem for other potential restaurants as they now have a competitor.
